What happens if a person practices nursing without a license?

Practicing nursing without a license is a crime under Tennessee law. Tenn. Code Ann. § 63-7-120 provides that it is a Class B misdemeanor to practice nursing without a valid license. The same law also prohibits practicing nursing when the person’s nursing license has been revoked or suspended. A Class B misdemeanor is not insignificant. Under Tenn. Code Ann. §40-35-111, such a misdemeanor can carry a penalty of up to six months imprisonment and a $500 fine.
